What was the first comic you read?

Tintin and The Adventures of Asterix

What inspired you to make comics? A specific story? Writer? Artist?

I’ve been making comics for as long as I can remember.  When I was 12 or 13 years old and I had binders full of comic pages, just filled to the brim with whatever story I wanted to tell at that time and I’d share them with my friends. They were all completely self indulgent, but people still liked reading them, and it was really encouraging!

What comic would you recommend to a first-time reader?

Strangers in Paradise, Wet Moon, Saga

As an artist, what medium do work in? Pencils? Ink? Digital?

I pretty much stick with digital for my comics, using a combination of Paint Tool SAI and Photoshop CS3. SAI and Photoshop compliment each other wonderfully!

As a writer, pen or keyboard?

I will do most of my brainstorming with pen and paper, but I will do more in depth writing with a keyboard. Also, because I’m terrible for getting distracted, I use Zenwriter to keep me focused.

Do you listen to music when you work? Other background noise?

Music is a must, and although I have a few ambient playlists that I listen to on 8tracks, I did make a few custom playlists when I’m working on more intense parts of Under the Dead Skies, mostly consisting of Silent Hill music. Sometimes I’ll be listening to Podcasts or YouTubers, but I work better with music.

Frustrations/challenges?

Keeping a regular update schedule, and trying to figure out sound effects that aren’t too cheesy or cartoony. It used to be backgrounds, but I’ve gotten over my frustrations with doing environments, finally!
